Physician Tablet Adoption Exceeds Expectations

Over 1,000 active physicians, nurses and other medical professionals told UBM Medica US if and how they are using tablet devices – iPad, Kindle Fire, and the rest of the competition – for professional purposes. Almost half of all physicians and other healthcare professionals own tablets – with 83 percent using them to read magazines and journals.

 

The findings: 

With the already high usage and continual growth in popularity of tablet devices pharmaceutical marketers should start thinking about what they need to include tablet advertising in campaigns. The physicians are there – are you?

Executive Summary:

  • Physicians are buying tablets, especially iPads, faster than the general population. Forty-eight percent of physicians own a tablet. 
  • Physicians use tablets for work-related activities, as well as for personal use. Only 14 percent use them exclusively for their personal recreation. 
     
  • Physicians are even reading journals – and seeing your ads – on their devices. Of those who own a tablet, eighty-three percent read, and even pay for, journals online.
